Regular Season Wrap-up

Posted Wednesday, October 22, 2008 by Tom Roof
Weekly report:
Salamanca finished regular season undefeated, sweeping Portville (25-13, 25-16, 30-28) and then, on Senior Night, Silver Creek (25-5, 25-10, 25-7).
Warriors finished 14-0 with second straight CCAA Div. II title. Only once all year did we go more than three games, that was our five-set win at Randolph in our third game of the season.

North Tonawanda Tournament:
Warriors advanced to Gold Medal Bracket second round before bowing out with a tough 30-28 loss to Frontier, ranked No. 2 this week among all large schools in Western New York.
In pool play, Warriors swept Grand Island and Williamsville South, then lost twice to Frontier.
In first round of play offs, we had an impressive 30-11 win over Lockport.

>From the coach: This was a good tournament for us. Other than first game against Frontier in pool play I thought we played extremely well.
I know we got a lot of great compliments. A lot ... both on how we played and how we conducted ourselves.

Regardless, I think we left on a high note, Our playoff loss was an exceptionally well played game. There were two games going on at that time and I don't believe anyone was watching the other game. It seemed all attention was on us and the crowd was responding with every play. It was a great experience.

FINAL NOTES: Seeding meeting for Section 6 tournament is today (Tuesday)
In today's WNY rankings, we have moved up to No. 4 among all Section 6 small schools, behind Eden, St. Mary's, and City Honors.
Randolph is fifth and Roy-Hart sixth.
